How has Twitter changed my life? At first glance, Twitter did not seem to possess any significant value for me because I didn’t understand it.
What do you mean? I think everyone goes through this, if you will, phase one. Phase one? This is the phase where most like myself say, ok, this appears to be neat, but how can I get anything out of this?
Believe it or not, some people said the same thing about cell phones in the beginning. They’re neat, but I pretty much got along without it until now, so why would I need to spend so much money to have or use a cell phone now, right?
Now, you know what happened, at least those of you that could remember the beginnings of cell phones when it reached critical mass in sales, about two percent of population using cell phones, right?
People over time began inventing uses and the importance of them to the point where they started depending on cell phones, right? What’s my point? Now people can’t live without cell phones, right? (smile)
Better yet, how about the Internet? Shall I continue? Am I making some since yet?
Let me say this, after observing other Twitter users, and how they used the service specifically, I started visualizing how valuable Twitter could be for me personally. How?
I viewed Twitter as a massive cocktail party where thousands of conversations (140 characters) tweeted about so many different subjects, and I started getting an education, a free one! J
Now, I am not ashamed to admit it, but I have no real experience attending cocktail parties personally, but I do watch television! LOL Seriously, I have attended networking type functions before, that’s sort of similar, right?
I discovered the many Twitter applications created by outside developers, unrelated to twitter directly, that can make using Twitter easier and fun. Where? In the various tweets (up to 140 characters each) being exchange between other users, people I did not know personally.
I started to feel a little overwhelmed, but it was a pleasurable feeling. As I started learning via the tweets including links or url’s to the sites containing the desired content, it ignited an addition like no other site! (smile)
Not only did I start using apps like “TweetDeck”, an application that makes using Twitter fun and more engaging and easier to manage the many tweets from the multiple Twitter friends, followers, etc. I started spending hours in Twitter.
Listen, I starting tweeting with authors of interesting books via tweets and they replied. I even started learning about new information that could help me to achieve my personal goals and ultimate outcomes in my life.
Can you feel me now, yet? (smile) Just by connecting with so many people now over two thousand followers, I started becoming so energized with enthusiasm to learn even more!
Wait a minute! With over two thousand followers, how in the world can you have personal relationships with all those people? Good question! We all share some common interest for one.
Think about it, the rock group U2 with hundreds of thousands fans around the world, how do you think they are able to connect with all of those fans personally? Of course, they are not going to have personal one on one relationships with them all, right? Ok, maybe some.
So, what connects all those fans around the world to the group? And I mean fans that are really passionate about U2, how? It’s the music, right? And just think they share with fans some personal parts of there lives via some site online or offline, right? Fans become for passionate about the band members and even feel like they know them personally, right? Am I right?
Pictures of themselves on tour etc. You get the point, right? Each individual tweet is our music, if you will. It’s all about the content, and the content tweeted is the appetizer to the meal. Understand what I mean?
It all starts with a tweet, and relations build from there. Now, it may not happen all at once, of course. Wait a minute, how does this happen? That is where the Twitter applications from outside developers fit into the equation.
You will need an application like TweetDeck to help make Twitter more active in real time and more manageable. You see, I can send multiple tweets at various time and the responses or replies may come at various hours of the day or days later, but the replies come in.
Ok. You still might say, I don’t see it yet. That’s ok. The idea that you read this far says something. You have to just do it, observe, learn, and ask questions. Let me leave you with some links to help you get started or make Twitter more interesting or beneficial to your professional and or personal life.

I happen to use twitter to get engaged with like-minded users or bloggers in my niche. I use the main twitter.com site and find the experience quite invaluable. Maybe I will get to using tweetdeck at some stage. Thanks for sharing!
Here is one of the posts I wrote about learning with twitter.
